Nashville, TN – Over the past year California-based songwriter/producer Kenny Butterill quietly established himself and his music as radio and listener friendly all across the globe with his first project, “No One You Know“, on the No Bull Songs label. Now, No Bull Songs and Butterill have announced a new project and the release of the first “virtual single” to Europe and Australia. This new virtual single will not be available for sale, although it will be included on Butterill’s highly anticipated upcoming CD scheduled for release in Europe in Spring 2002. The good news is listeners can enjoy the virtual single now, either on the radio in Europe and Australia, or free, online, at Kenny’s website www.nobullsongs.com beginning September 1.
The virtual single showcases a new tune, “The Townes You Left Behind“, written by Butterill in memory of the late Texas singer/songwriter Townes Van Zandt whose songs have been covered by hundreds of artists including such legends as Willie Nelson, Lucinda Williams, Guy Clark, Emmylou Harris, Merle Haggard and Hoyt Axton. “The Townes You Left Behind“, a reference by Butterill to the legends mentioned above and others, has been described by XM Radio’s Felton Pruitt, as a “definitive song about Townes that should be heard . . . having known Townes, I think he would have liked it.”
In conjunction with the release of the virtual single, a few lucky readers will be able to obtain an autographed Collector’s Edition CD single of “The Townes You Left Behind” through a special contest featured in the October issue of Country Music Plus, one of Europe’s leading monthly music magazines. In addition, No Bull Songs will be giving away 10 autographed Collector’s Edition CD singles of “The Townes You Left Behind” at the end of September via its website. Contestants can simply register to win a copy at No Bull Songs website www.nobullsongs.com.
With this new virtual single, Butterill continues on his contrary path in the music industry while pioneering and experimenting with new ways to get his music delivered to radio, listeners and Internet surfers alike. The California-based Canadian has garnered both praise and loyalty from audiences world wide for his heart felt songwriting and the warm, rootsy, alt-country folk music his style embodies. In addition to enjoying feature or review coverage in several leading music publications, many of the more than 300 radio stations that have spun Butterill’s tunes helped his last European single, Balsam, reach #29 in the European Media Services Country Charts earlier this year. This Fall, he’s looking to top that with this new virtual single.
