“Reminiscent of Don Williams and Tony Joe White, his voice is deep and honest, with an easy-going style that’s as mellow as a front porch swing,” is how KKUP Radio in Cupertino, CA describes Kenny Butterill. Still glowing after the successful December 1999 European release of his first solo effort, No One You Know, songwriter/producer Kenny Butterill is ready to duplicate that warm reception in the United States starting April 25. Butterill’s U.S. distribution of No One You Know on No Bull Songs Records is being handled by The Orchard & Valley Media, which ensures that the introduction of Kenny Butterill to Americana and country radio audiences will cause as much of a stir here as it did in Europe.

Butterill’s early European chart statistics are impressive. Landing in the top 40 on the Dutch charts and in the top 100 on other Euro-wide Indie charts in the first month of release, as well as airplay on over 50 European stations, only serves to underscore his enormous talent and wide appeal. Prior to the release of No One You Know to the European radio market, Butterill tested the waters on the World Wide Web. Using as a medium for getting his music out to the global audience, Butterill scored points when he debuted at #1 on the IUMA inaugural country chart, #2 on the folk chart and #7 on the college chart. Overall, Butterill scored a #13 IUMA rating out of over 5,000 new artists — not bad for his first at bat. Butterill’s April 25 U.S. release will no doubt make an eloquent and exciting stand at both Americana and country radio stations while opening the doors to other radio formats.

The native Canadian, who now lives quietly in the mountains of Northern California, has been lauded as a songwriter of great substance and depth. Already compared to the likes of J. J. Cale, John Prine, Townes Van Zandt and fellow Canadian Gordon Lightfoot, Butterill defies convention and makes his own rules with striking results. More comparisons have been drawn to pop-country rockers the Mavericks and British rockers Dire Straits showing that Butterill, as hard driving as he is tender, is capable of moving easily from genre to genre without losing his soul or the authentic emotion his writing conveys.
