Canada’s Kenny Butterill plus Toby Gray

Americana Alt-Country meets Americana Pop

Sunday September 14th, 2014

August 14, 2014  Santa Cruz, CA –Kenny Butterill and Toby Gray will split a double bill at Don Quixote’s, in Felton, CA on Sunday, September 14th, 2014 for a special 2:00pm matinee show.

Butterill is returning to Northern California for concerts with his Santa Cruz, CA band after touring back home in eastern Canada to support the release of his new CD “Troubadour Tales”.  This is Butterill’s third self-produced album and it is garnering rave reviews in Europe and North America.  Ten years in the making, “Troubadour Tales” was recorded over the last year and includes over twenty world class guests, including Donovan, Cindy Cashdollar, Redd Volkaert, Audrey Auld, Zoe Muth and the late, great Sarah Elizabeth Campbell amongst others.  Butterill’s influences include JJ Cale, Gordon Lightfoot and John Prine — his repertoire has a warm, back porch ambience with an up-close personal vibe and a laid back feel.   “Kenny Butterill is a gentle, country and blues songwriter-producer molded from the same elements as J.J. Cale…he’s original, sensitive, perceptive, warm and above all, memorable…he’s got the stuff,” says Barry Hammond, Penguin Eggs, Canada’s leading folk, roots and world music publication.

Toby Gray and band will be performing all original “Americana/Pop” compositions from his latest and upcoming CDs. Toby has been entertaining audiences across the United States and Canada since 1967. Besides great music his shows are enhanced with reminiscences from many years of playing music and traveling, featuring celebrities he’s worked with such as It’s A Beautiful Day, Dick Clark, Victor Borge, and a multitude of characters from San Francisco’s Summer of Love music scene. His easy demeanor and musical prowess creates a fun and pleasant experience for audiences. Toby toured with Dick Clark Productions in the 1970’s and has played with the iconic Summer of Love band “It’s A Beautiful Day” for the last 34 years as well as producing several of their recordings.
